The SoftRAID version 6 driver which Apple ships is not limited in its performance and is able to rebuild RAID volumes normally. The exact same driver now ships with the release version of the macOS Installer for Big Sur. Since mid-August, this driver has shipped with every beta release of Big Sur. After four weeks of testing all supported RAID levels, we sent the driver to Apple for inclusion in the macOS Installer for Big Sur. We started testing this new version of the driver on Intel Macs when the first beta Big Sur was released. The final release of the SoftRAID version 6 driver has been tested extensively and is already shipping. The Final Release of the SoftRAID Version 6 Driver Is Already Shipping We will continue to fix bugs in the application and refine the user interface before shipping the final release of SoftRAID version 6 in the coming months. We know this beta release is reliable as the driver has already passed through our test program and is a final release version. Rather than preventing users from upgrading to Big Sur, we decided to open the beta release of SoftRAID version 6 to everyone. Why is SoftRAID version 6 still in beta? We have several additional features we want to add to the SoftRAID application. SoftRAID Version 6 Beta Release Supports Big Sur We know that your important files rely on this piece of software, which is why we spend so much time testing and perfecting it. It gets called to perform every single read and write to a SoftRAID volume – often more than 10,000 times a second. It is running whenever you have a SoftRAID volume attached to your Mac. The SoftRAID driver is really the critical piece that makes a SoftRAID volume so fast and reliable. It just receives notices from the driver and puts up dialogs, and writes entries to the SoftRAID log whenever anything important happens. It is always running in the background but isn’t required for your SoftRAID volumes to work. Like the sign, it tells you when things are slowing down, or there is a problem you should deal with. The SoftRAID Monitor is like the traffic sign at the side of the freeway that tells you about traffic conditions.
It doesn’t have to be running for you to use a SoftRAID volume and is usually only used a few times a month. The SoftRAID application is used for setting up SoftRAID volumes and investigating problems.

Suggested warranty should be be extended and not start until they resolve problem. I just forwarded the same info to Lacie's support as the person I got in touch with seemed to not know as well.Īsked/suggested that Lacie might need to check with SoftRaid Driver and possibly fix. It's not the 1400/MB/s they declared but temporarily better. The speed jumped up to 1000, see attachment. => LaCie RAID Manager keeps recognizing the Big 6 as Raid 5 and does not appear to have issues with the new system as if nothing happened. Just did this and jumped to 1000MB/s for both R/W

Apple support say its not their fault that other companies don't keep up with them Does anyone have any ideas on this or any drivers from G tech?ĭunno if this might help. NO where does it say from Apple that drives won't work with an M1 Mac not anywhere and its gutting to have invested in two you devices from the the I mac and Air and if I could return all my products I just about would as this is thousands of dollars of equipment that really doesn't do the job. I don't know what to do as i need these drives for work and the content on them for work and they are great drives but i cant see them. Strange thing is a 2014 G Tech Studio drive (6 TB) works fine so how come these two don't? Its thousands of dollars wasted when you think you are buying the best out. I just proudly brought the new I Mac (brought last week, took seven weeks to get) spec'ed with more ram to then run Da Vinci Resolve 17 on and the two drives don't mount - I am told they won't as the M1 chip is too modern and its not a hardware fault of the Mac but my drives - I have spent about 8k on these drives and used them for some time in my work as an editor they are great drives and I am gutted that a brand new I Mac and now my wives new Mac book Air also M1 (brought today)won't see these drive. I have two G Tech drives a Studio R and Studio XL both of which have run fine for years they are great and stable as and run on an older I Mac and I Mac Pro but friends have and still run fine on my 2015 Mac Book.
